meet friend of the firm: bob Flynn

Hi Bob, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

I moved to San Diego from Boston some years ago to join my son Bob in creating Fairway Residential, an independent real estate brokerage focused on representing property owners selling real estate including trustees, probate executors and administrators and couples selling marital property as well, certainly, as property owners upsizing, downsizing or moving out of area. I practiced law and mediation for many years on the East Coast so working with lawyers and their clients was a “no brainer” decision.

What resource(s) do you find most helpful for staying current on real estate news?

The California Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors and Inman News are our “go to sources for real estate info! As well, of course, as the San Diego MLS. I personally enjoy keeping up with the latest real estate caselaw from the CA courts.

Who are the clients or what are the projects that you most enjoy working on?

Family dynamics make “court implicated” property sales rewarding and challenging. All sellers look for guidance on price, preparation, improvements (if any), marketing and negotiating contracts. Probate, trust administration and marital settlement sales often have the added component of legal tension and anxiety surrounding the transaction. My many years as a mediator and lawyer kick-start are so helpful in keeping everyone focused on their common goal rather than on the many distractions so we can get the escrow closed.

Do you have a favorite app or tech hack that you've discovered lately?

Our title company makes apps available to us that help us nail property values, and our lender provides us access to apps that really add value marketing to our toolbox, and trite as it may seem: The San Diego MLS is out there way ahead of Zillow and with up to date property and value data. We also provide our friends, colleagues, clients and lawyers with an electronic price estimate through a link in our newsletters.

How long have you lived in North County?

I’ve lived in San Elijo Hills in San Marcos for about five years, my son Bob in Encinitas for about ten and my son Brendan in the UTC area for about seven years.

What do you love most about living here?

It’s hard not to say the weather and really mean it! So, the weather it is! And with the end of the drought, the green, lush and tropical mountainous views, the constant feel and look of the Pacific, the outdoor life style and the many magnificent and rugged natural landscape places to visit make San Diego America’s Cape Cod West!
