January 3, 2018:
Steve Blake argued a case in front of the California Supreme Court entitled, Newport Harbour Ventures v. Morris Cerullo World Evangelism, case no. S239777. The issue involved an appeal of the denial of an anti-SLAPP motion brought under Code of Civil Procedure section 425.16. The trial court and court of appeal denied the motion on the grounds that it was untimely, even though it was filed within 60 days of the third amended complaint. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the case because of several inconsistent appellate decisions that apply the 60 day time limit differently.
