Litigation Paralegal
(100% Remote /California Based)
The Blake Law Firm (BLF) is a premier boutique firm specializing in real estate and business law. As a growing firm with a thriving statewide practice, we have an immediate need for a full Time Litigation Paralegal based in California.
While this position is 100% permanently remote (no future "return to office" mandates), we are specifically seeking a candidate based anywhere in California.
Who this role is for:
Candidates who have a history of job stability, a minimum of 3 years of experience in civil litigation supporting more than 1 attorney
Candidates who have a dedicated home office space with no distractions or noise
Candidates who are able to work during our office hours: Mon-Fri 8:30 am to 5 pm PST
Candidates who can handle 40-50 open matters at a time and have experience billing to matters.
Candidates who have excellent attention to detail and follow through
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Support
Discovery Management: Manage all phases of the discovery process, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, Requests for Production of Documents (RFPDs), and Requests for Admission (RFAs).
Document Production: Coordinate and manage document reviews, productions, and E-Discovery processes, including utilizing litigation support software
Pleadings & Motions: Assist attorneys in drafting and preparing pleadings, motions (including motions for summary judgment, ex-parte, etc.), briefs, and legal memorandums.
Court Filings: Coordinate and manage the accurate and timely filing of legal documents in state and federal courts, including proficiency in electronic filing (E-Filing/ECF) procedures.
Calendaring: Maintain and manage a comprehensive litigation calendar, tracking all court deadlines, statutes of limitations, and scheduling key dates (depositions, hearings, etc.).Qualifications
Investigation & Research
Factual Investigation: Conduct factual investigation, including interviewing clients and witnesses, and drafting witness declarations.
Case Summaries: Drafting case status summaries and memos for clients and attorneys.
Legal Research: Perform limited legal research under the direct supervision of an attorney, focusing on case law, statutes, and procedural rules (California and Federal).
Record Review: Obtain, review, and summarize various records (e.g., medical, employment, financial) and deposition/hearing transcripts.
Administrative
Provide back up phone coverage when the Legal Assistant is out of office, sick or on vacation
Screen PNC (potential new clients) and set up new client files/matters
Respond to work related emails, phone calls, letters, and other communications in a prompt and professional manner
Provide business development support (edit presentation slides, support team with video recordings, edit video transcripts, do market research
Review, organize and manage client files (all digital files)
Enter expenses into practice management system
Provide assistance with internal data analysis (excel spreadsheets)
Perform other administrative tasks as directed by the Managing Attorney & Director of Operations
Billing:
Paralegals have a billing minimum of 115 hours per month.
Our firm bills in a minimum of 0.1 units of an hour (0.1 = 6 minutes).
Paralegals are required to track their time on every task (billable and nonbillable) and log in daily into the firm's practice management software program.
Qualifications & Experience
Paralegal Education:
Not Required but Desired: A certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal program.
Experience: Minimum 2 full years of experience working as a litigation paralegal
Technical Skills:
Candidates must proficient with:
MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Google WorkSpace (GMail, Google Docs, Google Sheets)
Legal research tools (Westlaw/LexisNexis)
AI programs such as Perplexity, Gemini and NotebookLM
Practice Management software (PracticePanther or similar product - Clio, MyCase, etc.)
Court and Litigation support vendors (OneLegal, Odyssey eFileCA, First Legal, etc.)
